Meet The Staff: Beth

This week’s #MeetTheStaffMonday is Beth Lundgren, our Assistant Cook. We’re excited to have you join us as staff this year, Beth!

What is your name?
My name is Winnifred Lundgren (Beth)

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I live on a family farm south of the little village of Glenora. We basically deal with a lot of sheep on a daily basis.

What’s your role going to be at camp this summer?
My role at the camp this year is assistant cook.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?
This summer I am most looking forward to meeting new people and new campers and getting to know them. And at the same time having fun !

Would you rather have a pet unicorn or a pet dinosaur?
I would rather have a pet unicorn because unicorns are awesome so that makes me even more awesome.

If you could go on a road trip with anyone, dead or alive, who would you go with and where would you go?
If I got to go on a road trip, I would go with Michael Jackson to British Columbia.

Meet The Staff: Jordan

This week, we’re introducing our Head Cook, Jordan for our #MeetTheStaffMonday. Arguably one of the most important people at camp, we’re excited to have someone who has spent so much time at camp taking it on!

What is your name?
Jordan Basso

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a happily married father of two awesome kids, and have worked as camp staff in various positions over the years. My favourite place to be!

What is your role going to be at camp?
I’m the Head Cook this year, which is one of the few positions at camp I haven’t done yet, so I’m looking forward to adding that to the list!

What are you most looking forward to this summer?
This summer, I’m most looking forward to actually being at the camp, and spending time on the lake. RLUCC is a place that always helps me to unwind and and relax, and become grounded once again.

Would you rather have a pet dinosaur or a pet unicorn?
I would rather have a pet dinosaur, because I could ride it places (instead of walking- yikes), and because who doesn’t want a dinosaur??

If you could go on a road trip with any person, dead or alive, who would you choose and where would you go?
If I could go on a road trip with anyone, it would be Garth Brooks, and we would go to Nashville. I would ask him to sing the entire way!!

Meet The Staff: Xander

This week’s #MeetTheStaffMonday is our Youth Worship Leader/First Aid Attendant, Xander. Xander has been coming to camp FOREVER and we’re so glad he’ll get to spend the whole summer with us!

What is your name?
My name is Xander Miller.

Tell us a bit about yourself.
I live in Selkirk, MB and I’m 17 years old. My favourite colour is yellow and my favourite camp activities are canoeing and campfire.

What is your role going to be at camp?
My role at camp this year will be Chaplain/First Aid Attendant/Assistant Programmer.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?
I look forward meeting new counsellors, staff and campers alike as well as catching up with those I know.

Would you rather have a pet dinosaur or a pet unicorn?
I would own a pet dinosaur, but it must be a herbivore, of course 😛

If you could go on a road trip with any person, dead or alive, who would you choose and where would you go?
If I could go on a road trip with anyone it would be Bear Grylls, he would have some pretty cool survival stories.

Meet The Staff: Chris

This week’s #MeetTheStaffMonday post goes out to our caretaker, Chris. We’re looking forward to getting to know you this summer, Chris!

What is your name?
Chris Clarke

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am an aspiring musician who has just finished my first year of music at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario. I am a native Ontarian coming from Windsor (near Detroit, USA) and this will be my first time ever coming to Manitoba! I am extremely excited. I spend most of my summers working on a horse ranch, but decided to try something new, bringing me to RLUCC!

What is your role going to be at camp?
I am the caretaker, or as I like to call, Hagrid’s younger brother.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?
That’s a tough question. It’s between meeting and working with a great group of people or being able to do that in a completely new environment.

Would you rather have a pet dinosaur or a pet unicorn?
I had to consult my friends about this one. I’ve determined a unicorn may be best because I have watched Jurassic Park too many times to think a dinosaur is a good idea.

If you could go on a road trip with any person, dead or alive, who would you choose and where would you go?
I would love to go on a road trip across Canada with William Shakespeare, starting in Vancouver and ending in Stratford, to show him what his work has inspired. If you can’t tell, I am a bit of a nerd.

Meet The Staff: Kathryn

For our second #MeetTheStaffMonday of the week, you get a 3 for one deal. We’ll be introducing our Coordinator, Assistant Coordinator, and Junior Assistant Cook.

What is your name?
Kathryn Basso

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m a mom of 2 little kiddos, Emmett and Everleigh. I’m also a wife who loves cooking, baking, and camp. I also really love Pokemon Go.

What is your role going to be at camp?
I’m going to be the Coordinator again! I was the coordinator back in 2013, and honestly it’s my dream job!

What are you most looking forward to this summer?
I’m really excited to get to know all the kids this summer, and for my own kids to get to experience my favourite place in the world!

Would you rather have a pet dinosaur or a pet unicorn?
Unicorn. Because sparkles.

If you could go on a road trip with any person, dead or alive, who would you choose and where would you go?
Ben Savage, for sure. I think we’d probably go to the Boy Meets World house in LA and take a picture.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

*the following are answered by Kathryn, but Everleigh’s response to all of the questions is “AHHHHH,” not in a scared way, in a yelling way*
What is your name?
Everleigh

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m going to be 1 in July, I love Cheerios and my mom. I have the funniest brother ever.

What is your role going to be at camp?
Assistant coordinator, which basically means I’ll be contained in the staff house while Mommy works and go wherever she goes.

What are you most looking forward to this summer?
Probably my mom being there, I don’t really know what camp is.

Would you rather have a pet dinosaur or a pet unicorn?
I’d rather have a pet mommy.

If you could go on a road trip with any person, dead or alive, who would you choose and where would you go?
Mommy. We’d go to wherever she wants to go.
