I have just too many memories of my camping time at Rock Lake Camp. What a wonderful experience back in the early 1950. Our family attended many Family Camps then and my father Walter Johnson from Carman Manitoba was Leader for a couple of years. My brother has the old record that was made of the many songs from one of these Family Camps. I remember the one family of boys singing the popular Davy Crockett song.
This week at Gordon United Church in Victoria BC we sang the camp song We are Climbing Jacobs Ladder. That has to be my most special camp song with the memories of walking up from the Lake after vespers.

Lake United Church Camp Our Mission: To
provide a camping environment which encourages freedom to
experience and learn about Christian faith and growth,
within a fun, caring and safe community. From the first week in July, to the
last in August, the camp provides sessions for all ages,
including a two-day session for parents/grandparents and
tots. The program is run by a dedicated
full-time staff supported by counselors. Together they
create a warm, fun-filled atmosphere where campers are able
to enjoy the outdoors and grow spiritually. Swimming and waterfront activities are
supervised and onsite medical aid is provided. The camp also
has a sand volleyball court, play area and ball
field. The facility offers seven cabins,
modern showers, kitchen/dining hall for up to 100 people,
lodge, and an arts and recreation room. The staff have their
own accomodations in the Staff House with 8 bedrooms, two
bathrooms, a nurses room, its own small kitchen, livingroom
and dining room. Some bedrooms are double rooms. In addition to the summer camp
sessions, the camp also provides meals such as Mother's Day
dinners, or to organizations such as "The Red Hat Ladies" or
Presbytery meetings.
